parent's night out fun car ride home

Long drive home

We were called during Parent's Night Out to learn that Tyler has pink eye too. Those joining us in the car ride home were fortunate enough to enjoy about ten minutes of fussy, overly tired, sick children, who were only distracted by the flash of momnny's camera. They really enjoyed the silliness of the flash, and so we have plenty of ride home pictures. They will be posted momentarily...

that didn't take long

Now Tyler has pink eye too. Man, another office visit to pay for :( Would have been nice if we'd just had them both get seen the same day.

By any other name

Some parents might be tempted to "trick" their child into eating things like broccoli or lettuce... Emilie is something else! She really likes broccolli, which is great! I usually servei it in a round glass dish. TOnight I had lettuce in that same round glass dish. SHe saw the green in it and asked for the "broccoli" RIck gave it to her and we said it was lettuce, she copied us saying 'lettuce', but then ate it and kept calling it broccoli. At one point I saw Rick was calling it broccoli to her, too. I'd like to not confuse her, but then again...if she eats it when it's called broccoli.....

naps all around

We all did get a good nap today, and Emilie is still sleeping. Maybe she'll recooperate soon...

I'm weary!!!

I am pretty much run down at this point. I can barely keep my eyes open to type this. It seems I've been going non-stop since however many days ago it was that Tyler threw up, then the next day I was sick feeling, then Emilie threw up, and it seems like its been "something" (like not napping) or coughs, congestion etc... for about a week. Anyway, Emilie has been quite fussy lately at bedtime. Inconsolable almost. We know she had a cold, but there wasn't much we could do for that other than what we normally do to try to comfort her. Moving on, this morning Emilie woke up with some crusty yellow stuff (dried drainage) on her eyes. We took her to the Walgreens clinic and it turns out that she has pink eye. I had some other errands to do today that weren't going to get done unless I did them so I spent my morning at doctor's offices, pharmacies trying to find the gel form of the medicine, a health food store, and the post office. The kids ate their packed school lunches in the car as we drove. I made it home, took a Tylenol for my headache, and gave Emilie her eye stuff. She really hated it and I hope I just got SOME in there- it is a tiny tube they gave me and I'm supposed to do it for about a week. (garbage truck in the distance)...yeah, I just realized I forgot to put the trash out... Anyway, thankfully it looks like the kids are tired from all the running too and we all are crashing now. I will hopefully feel better after some much needed rest. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Sickness going around

Tyler threw up tonight too- Emilie did that the other night. I was nauseated but took Mylanta and Aleve tonight myself. I guess it's a bug going around and not just something ate.

So easy to forget

I kind of got out of the habit of journaling what the kids were doing. I'm really making an effort to update more frequently. I've been meaning to mention that Emilie says about three word sentences. I really can't remember them now, but on a few occasions this week, I've noticed her put together different three word senstences. Tyler still doesn't eat nearly as much as Emilie, unless its a sandwich- that boy loves sandwiches. Emilie loves Goodnight Moon lately. Tyler had a good day today. I don't want to neglect saying that. Emilie is "meowing" loudly as Rick is trying to changer her diaper for bed lol. We painted today with cotton balls and our hands. Rick is enamored by her. He thinks its so cute how her hair is growing and she's so girly-- I said you like having a girl he said yeah- he said we can have one more of each -- she must have melted his heart. We both of course think Tyler is adorable too- I'm just saying he is having a father/daughter bond I've noticed ---it's always interesting to observe.

What kids say on camera and what they don't - just random kid stuff

Days "Off"

There is something quite deceptive about the term having a day "off". I know as well as many others do, that a day at home with two children is actually more work than a day at a "dayjob". Because being a mother is a very constant job, especially when the day "off" is because one child is sick.

Last night, about midnight Emilie threw up. Twenty minutes later she did it again. I went to walmart and got some Pedialyte. I gave her some Motrin and this morning (about 6 hours after motrin) her temp was 99.7.... so I don't know if it was something she ate or a virus. So I'm home today. It's hard because I want to be at work too. I am the one who stays home when a child is sick. I don't like missing work (I like being dependable...but I also have to be dependable for my own children.)

expired milk

Yeah I kept the breastmilk from Emilie in the freezer(regular freezer not deep freeze) after it was expired. It was like I was holding on to the breastfeeding experience and didn't want to throw it away. My spouse threw it away! It upset me-like weaning all over again I felt like I was losing my baby and that special connection we had. I know it seemed just logical- throw away old milk..but it was something i couldn't bring myself to do...and miss it-- miss that experience.

peek a boo video

I am dreadfully behind in uploading videos, but here is one at least. It is Emilie playing peek a boo. She was really doing some weird laugh that day.

Tyler's thoughts...

1) Tyler: "You look like a tractor" (said to mommy)
2) Tyler; "If you don't have to go potty you do not say bad words, but if you do have to go potty you can say bad words." (There's a little confusion of potty words when its okay to say them and when it's not)....I understand what he means though.

"white stuff"

We've got to find a solution for Tyler wakingup and going into Emilie's room. He does this in the morning - which is dangerous because if we are asleep we dont' know what is going on in there. Anyway, today Tyler and Emilie come in- this scares me because he opens her door and they walk by the staircase- (gasps) I'm afraid she'd fall. Anyway, he says he had to take off her diaper for Emilie because she had white stuff in it. We had no idea what he was talking about, a few minutes later, we go in and see all kinds of white crystalized fuzz tinted yellow on the ground. We can only assume she had taken her diaper apart. Thank goodness it was only urine. Any suggestions on how to keep him out of her room, well besides an invisible fence :D

Masterpiece!

We painted today. Emilie tasted it :P She looks like the Joker or something. It was cool because when they had too much paint on the paper, I'd just take another piece and make a mirror image of it- then I hung it up on the windows to dry and my kitchen looked liked stained glass. Say Hello to my Elephant in the room lol.

conspiracy theory

I can see it now. Tyler hunched over just low enough to whisper into Emilie's ear. The two of them grin mischeviously. He leads, but she quickly follows. Lately the two have been the dynamic duo. Little inside jokes and games they play. Randomly start chanting or yelling something. Today, they both came in singing and carrying jars of peanut butter. Each day is an Adventure in Toddlerland.
